Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Laurel Clouston is singer/songwriter and entrepreneur. Coining her stage name to clear her namesakes in a crowded space, Laur Elle’s succession of instantly connectable alternative pop songs have taken her from relative obscurity to a streaming sensation.
Matching a vulnerable tone with her emotive twisting stories, she has emerged to become an artist to watch in preparation of her debut, long-form EP. Perhaps it was the “one foot out the door” mentality while attending university that led her to her true calling: music – and the songs she wanted to sing.
That realization was the turning point. Her poetic construction, aided by an acoustic guitar she picked up for fun was the fire starter for her creativity.
“When I write, I’m not about secrets but exploring the human emotions people have, whether it’s my own or that of others”, Laur Elle says. “What I love most are honest, candid stories and how my life swirls around them”. Using this footprint, she continues her path of knowledge through experience, whether on stage or in the studio.
The recipient of the Bell Media Prize, she is a graduate of the Canadian Music Incubator which further developed and embellished her original creations. It led to singles such as “Leave This Town” and “July” both of which eclipsed the 150,000 stream mark on Spotify. Her enthusiastic fan base on social media continues to embrace her alt-based ‘dream pop’.
“I listen to what’s on my mind, and sometimes I can’t sleep. So I guess you could say I’m a night owl where it comes to my writing, When my world slowed down, it created a new perspective”, she says. “That’s how Wallflower came about”. “Wallflower”, is her newest single, continuing her ongoing collaboration with constant studio mates, producer “Father” Bobby Townsend and electro-pop hitmaker, Talltale.
It's acoustic gritty, guitar intro drills into the soul that sets the stage for Laur Elle’s sultry voice. Part empathy, part introspection, the chorus peaks in a dramatic conclusion, lyrically channelling the need for the halcyon days to come.
Aside from her much anticipated long-form debut, Laur Elle has already completed co-writing trips in Los Angeles and Seoul and is currently writing with writers virtually in France, South Africa, Japan and Germany.
She is published by Cymba Music Publishing, based in Toronto. Moving 15 times before she was 11 was the beginning of her journey. There’s no stopping Laur Elle now. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Laur Elle’s life has been a whirlwind.
